The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) organized a day-long Free Legal Aid Camp, Legal Awareness Workshop and Panel Discussion with the aim of providing legal assistance and enhancing legal awareness among students of the Chittagong University.
The legal aid camp was held at the university’s Intellectuals’ Square, while the workshop and panel discussion took place at the Faculty of Business Administration auditorium on Sunday.
The event was inaugurated by the University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin, formally opened the legal aid camp by cutting the ribbon. CU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam attended as the special guest.
The programme was chaired by CUCSU Vice President Ibrahim Hossain Rony and moderated by Fazle Rabbi Touhid, Secretary for Law and Human Rights Affairs of CUCSU.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin said, raising students’ awareness of their legal rights is highly commendable. He noted that students often face difficulties due to a lack of proper legal guidance and that access to experienced lawyers on campus would help boost their confidence and ability to address legal issues.
Prof. Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam said, university administration would always support student-friendly and constructive initiatives. He added that the programme would help students receive legal assistance, find solutions to various problems, and become more aware of their rights and responsibilities.
CUCSU Vice President Ibrahim Hossain Rony said, student body remains committed to protecting students’ rights and welfare. He explained that the initiative was designed to improve legal awareness and ensure that students can easily access professional legal advice whenever needed.
Students from different departments participated in the free legal aid camp, where they received legal consultations from experienced lawyers. The event also featured networking opportunities, a quiz competition, certificates of participation, and special prizes for attendees.
Among the invited legal experts were Advocate Muhammad Kabir Hossain, Public Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC); Advocate Saiful Abedin, Additional Public Prosecutor of the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal; Advocate A.K. Karim of the Bangladesh Supreme Court; Advocate Abdullah Al Galib, Assistant Public Prosecutor of the Chattogram District and Sessions Judge Court; Advocate A.B.M. Omar Ali of the Chattogram District Judge Court; and Advocate Abu Hanif of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
The legal aid camp was held from 11 am to 1 pm, followed by the legal awareness workshop and panel discussion from 2 pm at the Faculty of Business Administration auditorium. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates among participants and special prizes for the winners of the quiz competition.
