Chattogram WASA Managing Director Engineer Salim Md. Jane Alam said that Chattogram WASA is not only a utility responsible for supplying safe drinking water but also has a social responsibility to stand beside people during times of crisis. He said the organization is working to ease the suffering of flood-affected people by distributing relief materials and ensuring access to safe drinking water.
He made the remarks while addressing a relief distribution programme as the chief guest on Friday at the premises of East Nasirabad Abdul Jalil Government Primary School, adjacent to Hasmikel Mor in the Baby Super area of Chattogram city.
Engineer Salim Md. Jane Alam said, “We hope that today's relief distribution will provide at least some relief to those affected by the floods. We firmly believe that the combined efforts of the government, public and private institutions, and people from all walks of life are the greatest strength in overcoming natural disasters.”
He said that access to safe drinking water becomes critically important during flood situations. Therefore, Chattogram WASA is working in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the supply of safe water and other necessary support, and will continue these efforts in the future.
He also called upon affluent individuals, business leaders, and various organizations to fulfill their humanitarian responsibility by extending support to flood victims.
Among those present at the programme were Chattogram WASA Chief Engineer Maksud Alam; Superintending Engineers Mohammad Nurul Amin, Muhammad Mahbubul Alam and Md. Nazrul Islam; Executive Engineers Muhammad Rezaul Ahsan Chowdhury, Soumit Paul, Abdullah Mohammad Saker, Muhammad Shahabuddin, A.S.M. Atiar Rahman, Richard Nelson Pinaru, Rumen Sen, Saiful Islam and Md. Omar Faruk; Assistant Engineers Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Abu Bakkar Siddique, along with other senior officials of the organization.
Also attending the event were Journalist Hasan Mukul, Convener of the Political Reporters' Unity (PRU); Engineer Rafiqun Nabi of the Association of Engineers, Bangladesh (AEB); former CUET Vice President Sirajul Islam; Engineers Mesbaul Alam and Kamruzzaman; Imdadul Haque Shahin; Abul Bashar; Sayem Shahin; and several local social and political leaders.
