Chattogram port to ensure stable supply during ramadan

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has taken a series of urgent initiatives to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. As part of these measures, the port has officially moved into 24/7 continuous operational mode.

According to port officials, the decision aims to maintain market stability by expediting the handling and delivery of essential goods such as fruits, spices, sugar, and other daily necessities. Authorities have also strengthened coordination among relevant stakeholders to keep the supply chain smooth and efficient.

To reduce container congestion at inland facilities, a special Crash Programme has been launched. This includes increased container transportation via rail and closer coordination with Bangladesh Railway to accelerate cargo movement between Chattogram Port and Dhaka ICD.

CPA is also addressing operational disruptions caused by non-functional scanners. Currently, 4 out of 8 scanners are out of service, leading to delays in cargo clearance. Immediate steps are being taken to repair and reactivate these systems

Port authorities have announced a strict “Zero Tolerance” policy against corruption and irregularities. The Chairman emphasized that transparency and faster cargo clearance will be ensured at all levels.

Additionally, a dedicated Quick Response Team has been formed to monitor port activities round the clock. Enhanced logistics support and container handling capacity are also being implemented in coordination with customs, shipping agents, and other stakeholders.

Officials expressed optimism that these proactive measures will help maintain a steady supply of essential goods and keep market prices stable throughout Ramadan.
