Four-year university courses must be completed within four years: Ehsanul

Education and Primary Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon has emphasized that four-year university degree programs must be completed within the stipulated four-year period to prevent delays in students’ academic careers and improve the quality of higher education.

He made the remarks while addressing a meeting was held at the auditorium of Chattogram College with officers-in-charge of examination centers under the Chattogram Education Board, Madrasa Education Board and Technical Education Board ahead of the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations on Tuesday morning. 

The minister said, government is committed to bringing meaningful reforms to the education sector to ensure that students do not lose valuable time during their academic journey. He noted that the schedules for the 2027 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and HSC examinations have already been announced, enabling students to prepare in advance.

“We will also coordinate the university admission process in the coming years. There is no alternative to qualitative changes in education. Therefore, four-year university courses must be completed within four years,” he said.

Highlighting the role of teachers in nation-building, Dr. Milon said educators must work responsibly to shape future generations. He stressed that teachers should possess self-motivation and professional commitment and earn respect through their dedication and performance.

The minister urged examination authorities to remain vigilant against modern forms of cheating. “The nature of malpractice in examinations has changed. Some candidates attempt to use digital devices for unfair means. Center secretaries and officials must remain alert and ensure examinations are conducted in a transparent and fair manner,” he said.

He said that effective initiatives in the education sector can help strengthen national unity and called for expanded educational development efforts in the Chattogram Hill Tracts and other remote regions of the country.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Chattogram.

Among those present as special guests were State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin and Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.
