Jos Buttler smashes fastest 4,000 T20I runs record

Jos Buttler rewrote the record books on Saturday, becoming the fastest batter in the world to score 4,000 runs in T20 Internationals in terms of balls taken.

The England wicketkeeper-batter reached the milestone during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group C match against Scotland in Kolkata, achieving it in the fourth ball of the second over.

Buttler needed just three runs to enter the elite club and did so with trademark authority, underlining his dominance in the shortest format.

He reached the landmark in 2,670 balls, overtaking India opener Rohit Sharma, who previously held the record for the fastest to 4,000 T20I runs in terms of balls faced.

The achievement further cements Buttler’s status as one of the most destructive batters in modern white-ball cricket.
