Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has approved a Tk 2,500 crore development project to improve living standards and ensure balanced development across the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT), State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin said today.
Visible implementation of the projects is expected to begin soon, he added.
The state minister made the remarks as chief guest at a cheque distribution ceremony at the Rangamati Hill District Council conference room, where grants provided on behalf of the prime minister were distributed among local temples of the Sanatan faith.
Mir Helal said the government's priority was to ensure equal rights and balanced development for all residents of the CHT, regardless of religion, ethnicity or community.
To achieve this goal, multifaceted development initiatives were being implemented through the hill district councils, the Chattogram Hill Tracts Development Board and other relevant government agencies, he said.
The Tk 2,500 crore projects will prioritize self-employment opportunities for marginalized communities, sustainable social protection, safe drinking water in remote areas, modern education through e-learning, improved sanitation and modernization of agricultural practices, he added.
