A large quantity of counterfeit government revenue stamps (banderoles) has been seized in a special drive conducted by police in Nandigram upazila of Bogura. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. The information was confirmed on Sunday by the Officer-in-Charge of Nandigram Police Station, Tarikul Islam.
The drive was carried out last Saturday (April 4) in the Nandigram Bus Stand area along the Natore–Bogura highway. During the operation, a total of 2,386 illegal and counterfeit government special revenue stamps (banderoles), worth approximately Tk 2.6 million, were recovered.
At that time, a delivery van used for transporting the stamps and two mobile phones were also seized.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Shamim Hossain (45), son of late Abdul Sattar, from Sarai Poddarpara village under Kaunia Police Station in Rangpur, and Md. Rakib Hossain (30), son of Matiar Rahman, from Kasaituli area under Rangpur Sadar Police Station.
OC Tarikul Islam said that a case has been filed at the police station in this regard. The accused were produced before the court on Sunday (April 5) after completion of legal procedures. He further added that such drives will continue to maintain law and order, and efforts are underway to identify others involved in the counterfeit banderole network.
