The Counter Terrorism Unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) conducted a special security drill on Monday at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the upcoming international cricket match between Bangladesh and Australia.

The match is scheduled to be held on June 17, and the exercise was organized to ensure the safety of players, officials, VIPs, and spectators attending the high-profile sporting event.

The drill involved members of the Counter Terrorism Unit’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Bomb Disposal Unit, and K-9 Unit. Various tactical scenarios were demonstrated, including responses to potential terrorist threats, identification of suspicious objects, explosive disposal operations, hostage rescue missions, VIP protection and emergency response procedures.

During the exercise, SWAT personnel showcased armed intervention and hostage rescue techniques, while the Bomb Disposal Unit demonstrated its capability to detect and neutralize explosive devices.

The K-9 Unit’s trained dog squad also carried out simulated explosive detection and security screening operations in and around the stadium premises.

According to CMP officials, the objective of the drill was to ensure international-standard security, assess preparedness for potential threats, and enhance coordination among different security units. The exercise forms part of the comprehensive security measures being implemented for the Bangladesh-Australia international cricket match.
