Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman have extended greetings to women in Bangladesh and around the world on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
In a Facebook post marking the day, Shafiqur acknowledged the significant role women play in building families, society, the economy and the state.
He said the contribution of women to national development is undeniable.
He expressed hope for a Bangladesh where women receive fair opportunities in education, employment and leadership, and where discrimination and wage inequality in workplaces are eliminated.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that every woman can live with dignity and security.
The Jamaat leader called on both the state and society to take stronger positions against violence, harassment and disrespect toward women.
He also highlighted the need for collective efforts to increase the participation of girls in science, technology, education and innovation.
Shafiqur said a just society built on morality, humanity and strong family values can help ensure the dignity and rights of women.
He added that women from all religions and communities in the country deserve respect and cooperation.
He urged everyone to work together to build a Bangladesh where women can move forward safely, with dignity and with opportunities to realise their full potential.
