Salman receives ICC demerit points after controversial run-out

Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha has been handed an official reprimand and one demerit point for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the second One Day International against Bangladesh.

The sanction followed on Saturday after an angry reaction from Salman following a controversial run-out decision that sparked tension late in Pakistan’s innings.

The incident occurred in the 39th over when Mohammad Rizwan pushed a delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz towards mid-on, triggering confusion between the batters.

Salman hesitated while trying to rush back to his crease, allowing Miraz to gather the ball and break the stumps with an underarm throw.

The decision was referred upstairs, but reports suggest Salman showed visible displeasure even before the third umpire delivered the verdict.

When the dismissal was confirmed, the Pakistan batter lost his cool, throwing both his helmet and gloves onto the field in full view of the crowd.

His frustration spilt over as he walked off, with Salman again flinging his equipment near the boundary rope and exchanging heated words with several Bangladesh players.

Match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul later charged Salman with abusing cricket equipment, a Level 1 offence under the ICC Code of Conduct.

The batter admitted the breach and accepted the sanction, resulting in one demerit point being added to his disciplinary record for the past two years, with no formal hearing required.

Despite the flashpoint, Pakistan cruised to a commanding 128-run victory in accordance with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, levelling the three-match series 1–1.

The series decider will now be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
