Strengthening Bangladesh–Malaysia Economic Partnership Ahead of the Honorable Prime Minister’s Visit to Malaysia

Ahead of the forthcoming visit of Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Malaysia on 21 June, and as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the activities of the Bangladesh–Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) and deepen bilateral trade and economic cooperation, a productive and cordial meeting was held at the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka with His Excellency Mohd Shuhada Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The BMCCI delegation was led by its President, Md. Anwar Shahid, and included Vice President Md. Arfatur Rahman (Apel), Secretary General Syed Moinuddin Ahmed, Joint Secretary Generals M. Mahmudur Rashid and Md. Mamunur Rahman, Treasurer Ahmed Kabir, Directors Mohammad Shahjahan, Md. Shahjahan Shaju, and Kazi Fahad Mostafa, as well as BMCCI Advisor Mahbub Alam Shah.

During the meeting, the BMCCI delegation reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to promoting trade, investment, and private-sector collaboration between Bangladesh and Malaysia. Discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, attracting greater Malaysian investment into Bangladesh’s priority sectors, and creating more structured platforms for engagement between the business communities of both countries.

Key areas of cooperation identified included the halal industry, manufacturing, infrastructure development, information and communication technology (ICT), tourism, and human resource development. Both sides also explored opportunities for joint initiatives such as business forums, trade missions, business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking sessions, and sector-specific exhibitions aimed at connecting entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders.

The discussions further emphasized the need to address existing barriers to trade and investment, improve the ease of doing business, and strengthen institutional linkages to facilitate smoother market access and operational support for investors. The importance of policy support, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building initiatives was also highlighted as essential to unlocking the full potential of Bangladesh–Malaysia economic cooperation.

His Excellency Mohd Shuhada Othman commended BMCCI for its proactive role in fostering stronger bilateral economic relations and reaffirmed the Malaysian High Commission’s continued support for initiatives that enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to work closely in the lead-up to the Prime Minister’s visit and beyond, with the objective of translating dialogue into concrete actions that will contribute to sustainable economic growth, increased investment, and shared prosperity for both nations.
