Sumaiya Shimu unveils untold chapters of her life

Popular small-screen actress Sumaiya Shimu began her career 27 years ago through modeling. Her first appearance before the camera was in a television commercial for “Bridge Beauty Soap”, which was shot in Mumbai.
Shimu recently shared an interesting story about the beginning of her career on the podcast “Behind the Fame with RRK”. She revealed that her first TV commercial was filmed at the same house where Shah Rukh Khan’s character “Vijay Agnihotri” was shown in the Madhuri Dixit-Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Anjaam”. The house also featured in the film’s popular song “Bari Mushkil Hai”.
The special episode of the podcast, hosted by Rumman Rashid Khan, will be aired simultaneously on Maasranga Television and Radio Day and Night 93.6 FM today at 9:00pm.
Appearing on the podcast for the first time, Shimu also spoke about her brief experience in films. Although she has been one of the most familiar faces on television, she appeared on the big screen only once, in a guest role in Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s 2004 film “Bachelor”. Later, filmmakers including Matin Rahman, FI Manik and Shahin Suman approached her with offers to work in mainstream cinema. However, due to her busy schedule in television dramas, she chose not to pursue a career in films.
Now holding a PhD degree, Shimu is actively involved in development work through her organisation, focusing particularly on women’s issues. She shared many such untold stories and surprising aspects of her life during the podcast.
