The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government is forming a 49-member Cabinet, comprising 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers. Among them, three are being appointed as technocrat ministers and state ministers.
The newly appointed ministers and state ministers will formally take oath on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier in the morning, the newly elected members took oath as MPs at the National Parliament.
Among the 25 full ministers, two are technocrats: Khalilur Rahman and Aminur Rashid. Khalilur Rahman previously served as National Security Adviser to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus of the interim government.
There is speculation that he may be given the responsibility of the Foreign Ministry in the BNP-led government.
BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Aminur Rashid has been called to take oath as a minister. He received a phone call from the Parliament Secretariat asking him to be prepared for the swearing-in as a minister. However, it has not yet been confirmed which ministry he will be assigned to.
Among the state ministers, Aminul Haque is being appointed as a technocrat. He had contested the election from Dhaka-16 with the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol but was defeated.
