Police have arrested two youths in Chattogram's bayezid bostami area after recovering a locally made shotgun and five rounds of live shotgun cartridges during a checkpoint operation.

According to police, the arrests were made on Friday night when officers set up a checkpoint in the Aturar Depot area under Kamrabad. The suspects allegedly attempted to flee during the search, prompting police to apprehend them.

The information was disclosed at a press briefing held on Saturday morning at the CMP Media Centre in Dampara Police Lines by Md. Hasan Mostafa Swapan, Deputy Commissioner of the North Division of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Touhidul Islam Samir (22), a resident of Purba Shahidnagar, and Alamgir Hossain Sajib (20), a resident of the Aturar Depot area.

Police said the checkpoint was established at around 8.30 pm in front of Messrs Raisa Store beneath the Syed Company building in Aturar Depot. During the operation, the two suspects allegedly tried to escape but were detained by officers.

A body search and subsequent inspection led to the recovery of a locally manufactured iron shotgun and five rounds of live shotgun cartridges from their possession, police said.

A case has been filed against both suspects under the Arms Act at Bayezid Bostami Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway.
