Top Terrorist Bablu arrested with arms, drugs in Sandwip

Police have arrested two alleged criminals, including a notorious terrorist known as Milad Hossain Bablu alias Chheni Bablu (35), during a special operation in Sandwip upazila of Chattogram. Firearms, ammunition, yaba tablets, and local weapons were also recovered based on information provided by the suspects.

The information was disclosed by Chattogram District Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Masud Alam at a press briefing held at the district police headquarters in Nasirabad on Saturday morning.

According to the police superintendent, since joining Chattogram District Police on May 7, he has instructed all police stations across the district to intensify anti-terrorism, anti-crime, and anti-drug operations to improve law and order and recover illegal arms and ammunition.

Police said that during a special operation conducted by Sandwip Police Station, Milad Hossain Bablu and Md. Jewel Rana (36) were arrested. Based on their confessional information, another raid was carried out in the Taher Bazar area, leading to the recovery of three locally made firearms (LG guns), four rounds of ammunition, a chisel, a machete, 315 yaba tablets, and Tk 11,220 in cash.

Investigations revealed that Bablu had allegedly been involved in criminal and terrorist activities in the area for a long time. 

Police said he has 20 cases filed against him on various charges. Regular cases have been filed over the recovered weapons and narcotics.

SP Masud Alam said that under the district-wide anti-terrorism drive, police have so far recovered 13 illegal firearms from 17 police station areas. Nine cases have been filed in connection with the seizures and 18 suspects have been arrested.

He said that anti-drug operations conducted during the same period resulted in the recovery of 245,083 yaba tablets, 92 kilograms of cannabis, and other narcotics. A total of 152 cases were filed, and 195 individuals were arrested in connection with drug-related offenses.

Police also arrested 14 suspects in five robbery and robbery-preparation cases and recovered various items linked to robbery activities.

"Chattogram District Police remain committed to maintaining law and order, building a society free from terrorism and drugs, and bringing criminals to justice. Such operations will continue to ensure public safety," SP Masud Alam said.
