9th Performance of Ershad Hasan’s Play “Vasane Ujan”

The solo play “Vasane Ujan,” based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s famous short story “The Gentle Spirit,” will be staged on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at 7:15 PM at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Produced by Vivekananda Theatre as its 25th production, this will be the 9th performance of the play.

Centered on the subtle conflicts of human silence, guilt, love, and loneliness, “Vasane Ujan” is essentially an inward journey. Through a single character, the complex psychology of the human inner world is gradually revealed. Here, the language of emotion becomes more important than dialogue, and silence itself emerges as the most powerful expression. Dostoevsky’s profound psychological narrative has been adapted for the Bangla stage by Apurba Kumar Kundu, while the production is directed by Subhasish Dutta Tanmoy. The solo performance is delivered by the acclaimed contemporary actor Md. Ershad Hasan.

Having been actively involved in theatre practice for more than two decades with Theatre (Bailey Road), the country’s oldest theatre troupe, Ershad Hasan’s performance in “Vasane Ujan” has added a new dimension to the production—so believe theatre enthusiasts. The play showcases a unique expression of artistic excellence, creativity, and continuously evolving acting skills. Through this solo performance, he appears to carry a special significance drawn from his long acting career. His restrained acting, profound expressions, and controlled physical language create a sense of inner dialogue within the audience that lingers long after the performance has ended.

The stage and lighting design of the production are by Palash Hendry Sen, music direction by Hamidur Rahman Pappu, costume design by Enamtara Saki, props design by Fazle Rabbee Sukarno, and choreography by Robin Basak.
