The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Dhaka, in cooperation with Alliance Française de Dhaka, organised a special screening of the documentary Destination Francophonie: Kosovo – Welcome to the Heart of the Balkans, produced by TV5MONDE and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo.
Held as part of the Francophonie Festival in Dhaka, the event brought together members of the diplomatic community, representatives of cultural institutions, academics, students, and Francophonie enthusiasts. The screening also reflected Kosovo’s ongoing cultural diplomacy efforts in Bangladesh.
In his opening remarks, Lulzim Pllana, Ambassador of Kosovo to Bangladesh, expressed his appreciation to François Chambraud, Director of Alliance Française de Dhaka, and his team for their hospitality and cooperation in promoting cultural dialogue and linguistic diversity.
Highlighting the importance of the Francophonie movement in Kosovo, the Ambassador said that Francophonie in the country is not merely symbolic but actively practiced in classrooms, cultural centres, and through partnerships with institutions such as the French Institute and other international networks.
Referring to relations between Kosovo and Bangladesh, Ambassador Pllana noted that Bangladesh, a nation rich in linguistic heritage and proud of its historic Language Movement, attaches special importance to the promotion of language and culture. He added that such events help create meaningful spaces where the two countries, despite geographical distance, can connect through cultural exchange and appreciation of diversity.
The documentary portrays Kosovo as a vibrant European country, highlighting the lively capital Prishtina, the archaeological heritage of Ulpiana, the cultural richness of Prizren and Gjakovë, as well as the achievements of Kosovo’s Olympic athletes.
Following the screening, guests enjoyed Iftar snacks in observance of the holy month of Ramadan, creating an opportunity for informal dialogue and cultural exchange.
Through initiatives like this, the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo continues to promote its culture and strengthen people-to-people connections between Kosovo and Bangladesh.
