The Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), along with four of its subsidiary companies, has handed over 2,000 food relief packages to the Chattogram district administration to support flood-affected people in Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts. The assistance has been provided under the organization's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Division on Wednesday, continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods from upstream have inundated vast areas of Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts. Thousands of people have been stranded and are living in severe hardship, particularly in Banshkhali and Satkania of Chattogram, Chakaria and Cox’s Bazar Sadar in Cox’s Bazar, as well as several parts of Bandarban.
To help ease the suffering of flood victims and support the government's ongoing relief operations, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Petrobangla jointly initiated the relief programme.
The 2,000 food packages were jointly financed by four Petrobangla subsidiaries: Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGDCL), Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL), Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited (RPGCL), and Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX).
Each relief package contains around 15 essential food items, including rice, lentils, flattened rice (chira), potatoes, salt, and other daily necessities. The packages will be distributed among approximately 2,000 flood-affected families.
The food packages were formally handed over to the Chattogram Deputy Commissioner at a ceremony attended by district administration officials, senior executives of the participating Petrobangla companies, leaders of the Karnaphuli Gas Officers' Welfare Association, and representatives of the Employees' Union (CBA).
Petrobangla and its affiliated companies stated that Corporate Social Responsibility is not merely an institutional commitment but also a moral and social responsibility to stand by people during times of disaster. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to continuing such humanitarian initiatives in response to future disasters and emergencies across the country.
