KCC conducts cleanliness, mosquito control drive to prevent dengue

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has conducted a cleanliness and mosquito control drive around the Government Majid Memorial City College hostel to prevent dengue in the city.

The drive was part of the Prime Minister's three-month nationwide cleanliness campaign, under which KCC has been conducting regular operations across the metropolitan area.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inspected the campaign on Saturday morning. The drive, conducted with technical assistance from the World Health Organization (WHO), covered areas up to Nirala intersection in Ward No. 26.

During the operation, volunteers removed water hyacinths from the pond beside the college hostel, drained stagnant water, cleaned drains, removed waste and sprayed mosquito repellent.

Manju told journalists and local dignitaries that water samples from the pond would be tested at Khulna University's laboratory to assess water quality and determine its suitability for recreational use.

Depending on the test results, the KCC would take initiatives to encourage residents to use the pond for swimming and other physical activities, he added.

KCC officials, Healthy City Forum members, around 50 BD Clean volunteers, local residents, community leaders and people from various professions participated in the drive.
