CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat announces to make Chattogram City free of billboards

To make Chattogram City a planned, attractive and clean metropolis, CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has announced a strict stance against billboards and illegal advertisement installations.

He said that regular eviction drives will be conducted to remove unauthorized billboards, banners and posters across the city and Chattogram will be made billboard-free in phases.

The drive officially began with the eviction of illegal billboards in Kazirdewri, one of the busiest and important areas of the city on Thursday afternoon.

The drive was conducted by the city corporation's magistrate team, engineering department, cleanliness department and members of the law enforcement agencies.

Billboards, banners and posters of various sizes that had been installed without permission for a long time were removed in the drive.  Officials concerned said that due to these illegal installations, the visibility of the road was being obstructed, traffic signals and signboards were being hidden and the risk of accidents was increasing. As a result of the eviction process, the visibility of the intersection has increased and traffic movement has returned to normal.

During the inspection of the campaign, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said, "We have taken coordinated and consistent initiatives to free Chattogram city from billboard garbage. Protecting the beauty of the city, maintaining environmental balance and ensuring road safety are our priorities. Strict legal action will be taken against any person or organization that installs billboards without permission."

He said that advertisements should be placed by following the prescribed policies and approval process of the City Corporation. Otherwise, the removal of illegal establishments will continue through regular monitoring and mobile courts.

CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Cleaning Officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Special Magistrate Md. Shoyeb Uddin Khan, Regional Executive Officer Abhishek Das, Umme Kulsum, Shahreen Ferdousi, Raktim Chowdhury, Pranoy Chakma, Executive Magistrate Chaiti Sarvabidya, Slum Development Officer Moinul Hossain Ali Joy and others were present.

According to City Corporation sources, similar eviction drives will be conducted in phases on other important roads and intersections of the city. This program will continue to build a clean, orderly and livable Chattogram.
