Engineer Salim Md. Jane Alam has officially assumed charge as the new Managing Director (MD) of Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA).
He formally took over the responsibility at a ceremony held at the CWASA headquarters on Monday morning.
Former Managing Director Monowara Begum welcomed him with flowers in the presence of senior officials of the organization.
The appointment of Engineer Selim Jane Alam is being viewed as a significant development for Chattogram’s water supply and sanitation sector. Throughout his professional career, he has earned recognition for his technical expertise, integrity, and leadership. He also served as the former President of the Chattogram Centre of the Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB).
Sources said CWASA is currently facing several challenges in meeting the demands of the city’s rapidly growing population. Ensuring safe and uninterrupted water supply, expanding service coverage, modernizing infrastructure, implementing new development projects, and improving sewerage and sanitation systems remain among the organization’s key priorities.
Experts believe that Engineer Salim Jane Alam’s extensive administrative and technical experience will play a vital role in addressing these challenges. His leadership is expected to contribute significantly to resolving water supply issues, enhancing operational efficiency, improving customer services, and developing a sustainable sanitation system for the city.
CWASA is currently implementing several major projects aimed at expanding access to safe drinking water, reducing dependence on groundwater by increasing the use of surface water sources, and introducing modern wastewater treatment and sewerage facilities across Chattogram.
Urban planners, engineers and civic representatives have expressed optimism that under the leadership of Engineer Salim Jane Alam, CWASA will become a more modern, efficient, and citizen-oriented service institution. They also hope that his tenure will contribute to building a more livable and sustainable Chattogram through improved water supply and sanitation services.
