The United Business Forum, led by Mohammad Amirul Haque, has secured a full-panel victory in the biennial election of The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
The election results were announced on Saturday evening by Monowara Begum, Chairman of the Election Board and Director of the Local Government Division in Chattogram.
The voting was held from 9 qam to 4:00pm at the World Trade Centre in Agrabad amid a festive atmosphere and enthusiastic participation from the business community, despite a boycott by one faction.
A total of 24 directors were elected from four categories. Among them, 12 directors were elected from the Ordinary Group and six from the Associate Group through direct voting. In addition, three directors each from the Trade Group and Town Association Group were elected unopposed.
The newly elected directors from the Ordinary Group are Kamal Mostafa Chowdhury of Raja Corporation (1,405 votes), ASM Ismail Khan of Falguni Traders Limited (1,374), Abu Haider Chowdhury of Chumki Apparels Limited (1,364), Md. Amzad Hossain Chowdhury of Rising Computer Scale (1,352), Md. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury of Eastern Apparels Limited (1,321), Asad Iftekhar of Turning Point (1,306), Aman Ullah Al Saghir of Stevedore Friends Syndicate Limited (1,277), Md. Golam Sarwar of Prantik Marine Services Limited (1,259), Mohammad Habibur Rahman of The Four Wheelers (1,259), Mohammad Shafiul Alam of New Karnaphuli Trading (1,249), Mohammad Shahidul Islam Chowdhury of JSN Enterprise Limited (1,211) and Shahidul Alam of Standard Logistics Services (1,209).
From the Associate Group, the elected directors are Md. Zahidul Hasan of Jar Trade (687 votes), Md. Nurul Islam of Swadesh Chemical Industries (Unit-2) (661), Md. Selim Nur of Jeco Enterprise (646), Sarwar Alam Khan of Sahir Trade (641), Mohammad Mashiul Alam of Monowara Trading (632) and Mohammad Alauddin Al Azad of Mars Maritime Services and Inspection (618).
The three directors elected unopposed from the Trade Group are Mohammad Amirul Haque of Rokonur Corporation, Mohammad Akhtar Parvez of PHP Motors Limited and SM Saiful Alam of Chattogram Trade Agency.
Meanwhile, the three directors elected unopposed from the Town Association Group are Afsar Hasan Chowdhury of Public Electric, Mohammad Monir Uddin of M Enterprise and Mohammad Sajjad Un Newaz of Orchid Trading.
According to chamber sources, a meeting of the newly elected directors will be held at the chamber building on Sunday at 11:00am. The meeting is expected to elect the Chamber President, Senior Vice-President and Vice-President.
