The price of a 12kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), widely used for household cooking, has been reduced by Tk 15.
The new pricing sets the 12kg cylinder at Tk1,341 in retail, down from the previous price of Tk 1,356.
The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) said the new price is effective from 6pm on Monday.
The commission said the price was revised following a change in value-added tax (VAT) policy by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The NBR withdrew VAT at the production stage of LPG and instead imposed a 7.5 percent VAT at the import stage, prompting the regulator to readjust prices.
According to the commission’s order, the retail price of privately supplied LPG has been set at Tk 111.79 per kg including VAT, which brings the price of a 12kg cylinder to Tk 1,341.
Prices for other cylinders have also been fixed as follows:
5.5kg cylinder: Tk 615
15kg cylinder: Tk 1,677
45kg cylinder: Tk 5,031
LPG supplied through reticulated pipeline systems has been priced at Tk 108.04 per kg including VAT.
The commission has also set the price of autogas used in vehicles at Tk 61.86 per litre.
BERC said the price of a 12.50kg cylinder supplied by the state-run LP Gas Limited has been readjusted to Tk 776.93, down from Tk 825 previously.
The last LPG price adjustment came on Feb 2, when the price of a 12kg cylinder was increased by Tk 50 to Tk 1,356.
Later, on Feb 16, the Internal Resources Division of the finance ministry issued a gazette notification setting a new VAT rate on LPG imports, leading to the latest revision.
